Born and raised in the heart of Northern New Mexico, Jimmy Martinez began his musical career at the age of five, performing Beatles songs with his brother for the family on a half-size acoustic guitar converted to a “mini-bass.” Since then, he has expanded his musical horizons by playing many different styles of music, from Dixieland jazz to contemporary funk. Classically trained and heavily influenced by bassists Cachao, Ray Brown, Rob Wasserman, Edgar Meyer, and Jaco and Roco Prestia, Jimmy brings his stylistic diversity to the task of laying down the groove with the Soul Deacons.
